Christmas in Cooroy was another huge success with over 10000 people enjoying the cornucopia of Christmas activities over the weekend and is probably Firefly Solutions largest event management project each year
Friday night kicked off with the opening of the Cooroy Live Life Pharmacy photo exhibition in the Butter Factory Arts Centre with Cr Tony Wellington judging the amazing photos and awarding Peta Hempsall and Sandie Chandler first and second prize. The exhibition continues on until 20 December 2015 alongside the latest Pop Up Exhibition and it is definitely worth a visit.
At the turning on of the beautiful Ri-con Christmas tree everyone had an absolute ball with the tree looking even more spectacular with more decorations than ever before. Eight stars on the tree were dedicated to loved ones that are no longer with us and their stories are on the wall adjacent to the tree which are sure to bring a tear to the eye! The carols at the turning on of the tree added a lovely touch to the night also.
Saturday kicked off with the Cooroy Fish N Chips Santa Sack Races which really set the scene for the rest of the day with some good old fashioned fun and laughter. Next up was the Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group Great Santa Race which raised over $1,300 for the Leukaemia Foundation with nearly 70 competitors donned in Santa suits racing up the main street of Cooroy.
Spectators lined the street for the ever popular Bendigo Bank street parade and the floats were of a spectacular standard this year. Forty businesses and community groups participated and the Fairy Tales and Legends theme was a big hit with young and old alike. Tadpoles Early Learning Centre held onto the title of Best Float for the second year but it was a tough competition with Cooroy State School and Bendigo Bank close on their tails in the scoring stakes according to judges Cr Frank Wilkie, Cr Frank Pardon and Cr Sandy Bolton.
The East Side Tuggers were ecstatic to retain their title in the Hinterland Dental East versus West Tug of War for the fourth year running. West side have gone into training early to secure a strong team for 2016!
The free activities kept people entertained all evening with the free Cooroy Rag rides, the CJ Taxation sponsored face painting, the Santa visit sponsored by Gelignite Jacks, the fantastic entertainment program sponsored by Cooroy Supa IGA and of course the ever popular spectacular fireworks display sponsored by Cooroy RSL.
“There is a long list of people to thank for this event including the sponsors, the volunteers, the Christmas in Cooroy committee, Rotary Club of Cooroy, Noosa SES, Cooroy Chamber of Commerce, Cooroy Police and our MCs who all gave up copious amounts of time. It’s the fantastic community spirit that Cooroy has that makes this event so special,” said Cooroy Chamber of Commerce president, Danielle Taylor.
